Wow One Month!

Hello all! Ok so yesterday was my one month on this journey! What a month it has been! I am so pleased with my progress, but I still really struggle with working out! I NEED helpful ideas from you exercisers! I just have a real lack of motivation in that area and am feeling like every week I am setting a goal to work out more and I am consistently not following through! UGHH!! SO please if you have some practical, gentle ways to get me started BRING THEM ON! I NEED HELP! LOL!

  1. First of all, MUSIC !!! Find something with a great driving beat, that you can listen to and zone out, letting the music help you move. That's MY biggest motivation. Plus, it's a reason to listen guilt free to all of the cheesy music that I want to, as long as it gets me moving.
Then, get outside if you can (which it sounds like you are already doing...), and above all, be patient! You don't want to try to do too much, too soon- take it from me; I thought I felt fine after doing my workout for a few months, and thought I needed to add reps for my thighs- I ended up pulling a muscle in my hip- SSSSooooooooo not fun. And injury takes you out of the game completely until you heal! :(
    So please be careful!
Varying your workouts might keep you from getting bored- so maybe add yoga? I know it seems so mellow, but it is super great for you, your strength, your lung capacity, your limberness, and...your sanity...(!)
Or, if you are doing weights, instead of doing more reps with lighter weights, try less reps with SLIGHTLY heavier weights (or vice versa). Best yet, try finding a personal trainer, and pay for a couple of sessions or a consultation- they could probably steer you toward what you're missing in your workout more safely than any of us...
Keep up the great work, keep moving, and remember, you are doing really well!

  2. Find a buddy that lives close to work out together.

I like videos because I'm too lazy and cheap to go somewhere (i.e. a gym). I've been sad lately because my favorite has gone awol. I get totally bored with it, but I keep going back to it because I get results. Winsor Pilates. So instead, I have been using comcast on demand and working out with Jillian and Harley Pasternak. Both are circuit trainers, but only about 20 min.
I also LOVE to read. We have a treadmill and my husband is super great about keeping the kids busy when I'm on it. I get the large print books from the library (easier to see when you are jostling around) and just start walking, at a quick pace of course. I call it my excuse to read and then it doesn't feel so much like exercise.
Or just make a list of the exercises you want to do and do them while watching your favorite show.
I'm only 15 lbs from my goal, but these are the hardest because I've already restricted my calories as far as they go. So, I'm in the gotta exercise more boat with you.

  3. Oh, something Christi said reminded me of something my friend does- she got a portable DVD player, and watches DVDs when she's on the treadmill. (and the other times, the portable DVD player is in her children's hands, in the car or at the store...)
